The Truth About Natural cosmetics

While many cosmetics brands claim to use ‘natural’ ingredients in their products, this does not necessarily mean they are natural cosmetics.

The term Natural is generally defined by dictionaries as:

Free from artificiality; existing in or formed by nature

However, the cosmetic industry defines it as:

Any ingredient derived from a natural substance

As a result, there are many so-called ‘natural cosmetics’ on the world beauty market masquerading as natural products when they are actually quite the opposite.

We often see long chemical names followed by the phrase “derived from coconut oil” listed in the ingredients of our cosmetics products.

In actual fact, any product that lists its ingredients as being derived from coconut oil would require a harmful synthetic chemical known as diethanolamine (DEA), and is therefore no longer ‘natural’.

With so many cosmetics products, how can we tell what are truly natural cosmetics? The best way is to conduct research on the natural cosmetics you wish to purchase before you commit to buying them. Wary consumers across the world have compiled a list of dangerous ingredients that can be found in many popular ‘natural cosmetics’ brands and their products.

Knowing what these ingredients are and reading the labels of all your potential purchases before buying is the smartest way to protecting your face from dangerous chemicals and synthetic ingredients.
